Rancho La Loma Homestead is located on a natural hill on the northwest edge of the city named after its founder. The home was built in the 1920s as a winter retreat and home for Paul Litchfield, President (1926-1940) and CEO (1930-1958) of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., a firm he developed into a worldwide operation. The Homestead was an oasis in the desert, providing housing for his family and visiting dignitaries.
It was conceived and built under Mr. Litchfield’s vision and direction and included residential cottages, botanical gardens, native and introduced wildlife, outdoor religious and entertainment facilities not only for family and guests, but the general population of the area.
The Homestead was comprised of four cottages, an open-air bandstand/chapel, 325,000-gallon underground water reservoir and pump house, pool house/restrooms, and an expansive terrace to enjoy the sunsets.

At the top of the hill is the stage and seating area for the Open Air Chapel.
