Current Exhibits

The WIGWAM -
From Necessity to Luxury

The Wigwam’s colorful evolution takes it through the isolated years of the company town, the trying times of the Great Depression and World War II, the prosperous years of post-war America, several rocky years of uncertainty, and today’s remarkable renewal. It’s a fascinating look at over 100 years of the resort’s exceptional history in a unique corner of Arizona.

Come and see this exhibit and find out what happened when the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. gave up their resort after 68 years. See Red Allen’s golf clubs, examples of the early Monterey furniture, a dance card from 1932, and one of the original arrow picture frames from the resort.

Paul Litchfield's Rancho La Loma

This exhibit portrays what life was like on the hill behind our museum from the 1920s through the 1980s.

The hill bloomed as a garden of trees, plants, and grass and became a sanctuary for over 130 species of birds. It also turned into a personal retreat for Paul Litchfield. At the end of each day, Litchfield and his family would walk down the hill to the desert floor and quietly sit in an area they call Sunset Terrace. Peaceful and secluded, they watched the sun set over the White Tank Mountains. It became a place of thoughtful reflection after the energies of the day had been spent.
