Volunteer With Us!

Volunteers make everything possible. Our mission is to connect generations by fostering an understanding and appreciation of the history, arts, and culture of the Southwest Valley with the goal of becoming the historical and cultural heart of the Southwest Valley.

We welcome volunteers of all walks of life, and training is provided where needed. Tell us about your talents and interests and we’ll find a way to put them to good use! If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer at the P.W. Volunteer Opportunities

Here are several areas where we could use your help! If you don’t see something that fits your interests or abilities, but you’d still like to get involved, please call or email and we’ll work with you to find an opportunity!

Education

  • Docent: If you enjoy learning and sharing what you learn with others, being a docent might be just the thing for you! Docents provide a friendly welcome and educate the public about the exhibits at the museum. The typically time commitment is about three hours per week, although this may vary to suit volunteers’ schedules. All docents go through a period of training to prepare for this fun and important role.
  • Help with Programs: This could include assisting with school presentations, leading educational activities at family-focused programs, or developing lesson plans for K-12 teachers.
Researcher: Conduct historical research for special projects, our archives, or exhibits.
  • Speaker coordinator: Research possible topics relevant to the history of the Southwest Valley and reach out to speakers for presentations.

Communications and Public Relations

  • Social Media: Help create posts or social media campaigns to promote local history, the museum, and its programs.
  • Writer: Research and write articles for our newsletter and other publications. Help create press releases and promotional content for events to be utilized in emails and on the website.
  • Graphic Design: design and create flyers for promotion of events
  • Photographer: Take photos or videos for events and special projects.

Archives/Collections

  • Oral History: Help us collect, process, and transcribe oral history interviews.

Office

  • Newsletter Mailing: Groups meet as needed to assemble bulk mailings. Many hands make light work in a fun and social atmosphere!

Technology

  • Video: Help monitor and/or record presentations and oral interviews or create and edit videos of varying length for the museum website and YouTube channel.
  • Website: Assistance with website maintenance

Events

  • If you’d like to be involved in a project for a set amount of time and enjoy bringing fun, cultural, and educational events to the community, we’d love your help! The range of tasks include serving on the planning committee, manning booths, leading small group activities, providing information, set up and/or clean up, and registration.

Fundraising/Development

  • Assist with Fundraising Events: One of our successful fundraising events is our annual Litchfield Park Home Tour. If creativity and planning are your thing, consider helping us improve our fundraising strategies and the success of our events.
